Plopping back onto his arm chair, Yamada watched as the
student walked out of his room with a smile. It always made his day when he successfully
bringing them out of their problems. That was his job, as a counselor. A knock on his office door was
heard, and when it opened up, he smiled as he saw a familiar face entering.
Nakajima Yuto, the school’s Art teacher.
***
“How was your day in class?” Placing a cup of coffee in
front of the younger man, Yamada went back to his seat and looked at Yuto
taking a sip. “The same as always I guess. How about you? Bringing our students
up and guiding them back on the track?”
The glare he receives just signaled to him that what he
guessed about Yamada’s day was correct.
“It’s funny that you can give people the right advices, yet
you’re stuck there.” Yuto knew that it was a sensitive subject and he saw
Yamada flinch slightly. Both of them knew very well what had happened during
their high school year.
***
They have been best of friends ever since, and their
schoolmates would always see both of them beside each other, fooling around.
Yuto was the charismatic one, where everyone would always agree when he was
leading. Yamada was the one everyone went to when they had trouble, as the boy
always gives good advices.
He was always bombarded with their classmates’ pled for
relationship advices, and being someone that had not been into a relationship
before, Yamada always gives the right tips somehow.
***
“I like you, Yama-chan.” Both of them were just lazing on
the rooftop beside each other, and Yuto just had to break the silence with that
sentence. Sitting up quickly, Yamada looked at Yuto with wide eyes, not knowing
what to do. All he could muster out was a ‘Sorry’ and even if Yuto’s eyes were
closed, Yamada knew that the other boy was hurt.
When questioned about the rejection, Yuto remembers clearly
that he saw Yamada fidgeting as if unsure what he should do. “I have no idea
what to do if we’re together. I have no idea if I have any feelings … for you.”
***
An awkward silence filled the office, and Yamada just
chuckled. “That was years ago, Yuto-kun. Why did you bring it up again?” He had
quickly turned away from Yuto, looking out of the window. “I’m bringing it up
to see if you’ve found out if you had any feelings for me.”
Yamada had heard Yuto standing up, and thinking that the
younger man would leave, however he did not expect Yuto to be standing in front
of him, tilting his head up by his chin and softly touching their lips
together.
***
He had always known that he has feelings for his best friend.
Yamada had known that he loves Yuto as much as the younger man loves his back.
However when he was confessed by Yuto, he was shocked. Sure, he was like the
love guru of their high school, yet he has no personal experience in someone
loving him.
He was terrified that with one wrong step made, he’d lose
Yuto. And Yamada was not ready to lose Yuto just like that.
***
“Let me be there to guide you this time? Ryosuke.” Yuto
broke off the kiss, and he just leaned his forehead against Yamada’s looking
into the elder’s brown orbs. He saw Yamada trying to find reassurance in his
eyes, trying to feel that everything would be alright if he fell for Yuto.
A decision was made, a smile was formed, and the distance
between their lips was closed once again, but this time, by Yamada.
Sure, he guides people, and give advices. But for now, he’ll
let Yuto guide him in this foreign feeling called love.
