The next day, Riko went to school clutching onto Kento’s arm even tighter. Her hair was bun up, and she wore a white tube dress she bought with Kento a few days ago. Whispers could be heard from the side.
“Ne, is that girl Kento’s girlfriend?”
“Even if she is, they look cute together.”
“She’s attractive.”
“Oh gosh, my inner Kento fangirl just died.”
When Aiko and the three JUMP members were in sight, Riko broke off into a sprint, and immediately hugged Aiko tightly. Tears were rolling down her cheeks, and this action had surprised the older girl. “Riko, what happened?”
“Knife. Flew through the window. Inches from head.” It was all messed up, Riko’s speech. However, Aiko understood it and hugged the younger girl tightly. A glare was sent to Kento, but Ryosuke spoke up. “It’s not his fault, Sugihara.”
From a corner, a person grinned.
The crying face of Riko pained his heart. He had never wanted to see her suffer anymore. Yuto had texted him about what happened. A sigh escaped from his lips, and Hayato closed his eyes. Little did Hayato notice that Riko saw him standing there looking.
“Riko, what is it?” It was break time, and Riko had pulled Aiko away from the group. Fiddling with her fingers and Riko mumbled out. “Aiko-chan, I know Kusaka-kun before right? Who is he to me? Can you tell me the truth, please?” Lowering her head, Aiko surrendered.
“He was your boyfriend, four years ago.” Everything was spilled out, and Riko just stood there, stunned.
Sitting down at the bench, Aiko didn’t speak at all. Riko had left, saying that she’ll go to the library alone.
Kento had felt that the girl needed some time alone, for who knows what reason, and let her go herself. Eyes were on the only girl at the table, and Aiko felt a nudge on her arm. “Ai, what happened?”
Tears just unconsciously rolled down, and she continued to sob in Chinen’s arm. “I feel so bad. Just now … I told who Hayato was to her before she lost her memories. I’m so bad.” Kento couldn’t understand a word, and Yuto just bluntly explained it to him.
“Hayato and Riko were together, once. Four years ago.”
Her eyes were unfocused, as she stared at the ceiling of the library. In her hands was a copy of Shakespeare’s literature text, Romeo and Juliet.
Riko didn’t know why, but she loved it very much. It didn’t really matter that she thinks that Romeo was kind of silly for not checking Juliet’s pulse before wanting to kill himself.
Deciding to stand up, she decided to go crazy and reached out for a book she never thought she’ll read. At the same time, another hand had touched hers. “Kusaka-kun …”
There beside her was Kusaka Hayato. Unknowingly, tears fell and her knees gave way. “Takasugi-san, Takasugi-san are you okay?” That was the last thing Riko heard before she lost conscious.
“… Hayato.”
The said boy stiffened, and held Riko closer. Just for this moment, Hayato wished for time to stop. Just then, the book shelf started to shake, and books came falling down. Without thinking, Hayato immediately used his body to shield Riko.
A book had hit him on the head, and he fell on Riko unconscious. At the side, the book that had hit him was a fiction about mass killing.
