“Good morning, General Yamada.” The shorter man turned, and smiled a little to the person who was in a ceremonial bow of the military.
Moving forward, he placed his right hand on the person’s head. “You may raise, Colonel Nakajima.”
Nakajima Yuto rose up, and he easily towered over Yamada Ryosuke. “You know, you don’t have to be this uptight. No one is up, only us. There’s five hours more till they wake up.”
Ryosuke’s arm snaked around Yuto’s waist which was hidden in his armor. The affection was returned, and Yuto rested his head on Ryosuke’s head. “These five hours are never enough for us.”
Nodding a little, Ryosuke had led the taller man towards the bed, allowing himself to be pinned down by Yuto. Gentle kisses were planted on Ryosuke’s neck, and younger man fiddled around with the armor of his lover.
They never got further than affectionately kissing and touching each other.
No, not here, not now, definitely not in the middle of a war.
As much as I try to touch you
You vanish in my grasp...
Lying beside each other, Yuto whispered in Ryosuke’s ear. “You know some soldiers are trying to over throw you?”
“Spoil sport. Do you have to destroy my little heaven now?”
“I’m worried for you, Ryosuke.”
A smile graced the older man’s lips as he kissed on the forehead. “I’m ready to fight. The ‘General’ in front of my family name isn’t just for show.” Yuto only shook his head. “Fighting against almost five hundred men? I would like to see how you’re going to do that alone.”
“Yuto-kun would save me than.”
With one last kiss, Yuto stood up and adjusted his armor. Ryosuke followed suit and went to his made-shift table in his tent.
Sitting down opposite each other, the atmosphere changed. The look in Ryosuke’s eyes was no longer filled with affections. It was now serious and determined.
The gaze of a General.
It was the same with Yuto. The man was now looking up to his lover, or in this case now, his General. He was now ready to lose his life for his country.
“Nakajima.” For a moment, morose flashed passed Ryosuke’s eyes, and Yuto knew that the next mission he was going to receive was a very difficult decision for the older man. “Yes, General.”
“Your next mission is to infiltrate the enemy’s base camp with our top spies. Their base camp is at the plain up North.” A scroll was passed into Yuto’s possession, and Yuto saluted Ryosuke, accepting his mission as a Colonel.
His mask dropped, and a tear rolled down Ryosuke’s cheek. “Yuto, please come back safely.”
“I’ll try, Ryosuke. Wait for me.”
As much as I try to hide the wounds
Somehow, the tears overflow

How long has this war lasted?
Ryosuke had lost count. Probably two years at least. He had seen snow so white being tainted by the crimson red blood of his men and their enemy’s.
Carrying just one single thought
I starred the sky with crimson dyed snow
As a soldier, he has no say, as it was their job to take the lives of their country’s enemy. However, no one expected him to be a peace-lover. Yamada Ryosuke, the General who has the most victories in war, hates to take away someone’s life.
Even if it was their enemy’s life.
Looking out into the open field, he watches Yuto and his men mount onto their horses in their enemy’s uniform and armor. In a fleeting moment, their eyes met and Yuto mouthed ‘Don’t worry’ to Ryosuke, and the older man had mouthed back a ‘Be safe’.
With that, the throttling of the horses’ hoofs faded away into the white landscape. Ryosuke felt his heart clench, and he desperately repeatedly flashed Yuto’s smile in his mind.
He was terribly afraid to lose his lover in this never ending war.
‘Please don’t fade away from my life, Yuto.’
Your smiling face has grown hazy, I can no longer see it

Days passed, and every evening, Ryosuke would get a short report from Yuto through pigeon mail. Today was no different, however, the after he had read the report, Ryosuke had immediately grabbed his sword on impulse.
He was immediately held back by his Lieutenant Colonel, Morimoto Ryutaro, who was also his best friend. “General! Where do you think you’re going?!?”
“Morimoto, let go. Nakajima needs back up.”
‘General, we’ve been found out. We are now retreating. There are already four casualties.’
“Stop it General. The army needs you as their moral support.”
A scream was let out, and Ryosuke plunged his sword into the ground as tears started to fall. Pulling himself together again, he had commanded Ryutaro to take a hundred of men with him, to back up Yuto. After Ryutaro nodded and took off to where Yuto is, Ryosuke remained outside and looked at the full moon outside.
‘It’s snowing again. It’s as if the sky is crying for us.’
I screamed over and over into the night sky
That I could have loved you so much it stole my heart away

In this complicated situation, where lives were lost every day, the snow continued to flutter down to earth in their peaceful dance.
As if tears were all frozen, and the chilly winter breeze rolled over the battle field. Ryosuke had made a decision.
Turning to Okamoto Keito, his Major, he took off his badge and handed it to the older man. “Major Okamoto.”
“Yes, General.” The man knew what Ryosuke was going to do. He couldn’t protest, since he knew that Ryosuke was as stubborn as a bull.
The badge of the General was passed onto Keito, with soldiers looking on with eyes wide in disbelieve. “I now appoint you as General Okamoto right now in this situation. General Yamada Ryosuke has died and before he died, he had passed you the General badge.”
Keito only dumbly nodded, as Ryosuke pinned on the badge for him, before pulling out his sword and mounting on a horse.
“Where are you going, Ge … Yamada.”
“It’s obvious isn’t it? Rescuing Morimoto and Nakajima. Don’t worry. They’ll safely come back, especially Morimoto. Jaa.”

Days passed and the news of the raging battle between the backups and enemy continued to reach Keito’s ears.
It was on that faithful day, snow continued to fall, and in the white landscape, one soldier spotted people walking towards their base.
“IT’S LIEUTENANT COLONEL MORIMOTO! THEY ARE BACK!”
Screams, shouts and cheers were heard, and the snow was slowly stained in a crimson red, and soldiers were already running out to help their comrades. Keito had also followed, catching Ryutaro just in time.
“Where are Yamada and Nakajima?”
“They …” Suddenly no one said a thing, every one present just kept quiet, and looked up into the night sky where the moon shone brightly and snow continued to fall.
