The soft crinkle of paper could be heard in Ryosuke's dimly lit room. The silhouette of the boy could be seen sitting on his queen-sized bed. Dried tear tracks could be seen. Looking at the photograph on his side table, Ryosuke managed a soft smile, and once again soft sobs echoed through the seemingly empty room.
'It's too empty. Without him.'
Opening his eyes, he saw the different coloured paper cranes littered around the empty space of his bed. "I cried myself to sleep again, I guess."
The soft light of the morning sun shimmered into his room through the gaps of his white curtains. As his slipped into his bedroom slippers, he tried his best to stand up and shuffled his way into the bathroom.
The mirror had shown him how terrible he currently look. His eyes were all puffy because of crying. There was an apparent weight lost, and his hair was in a mess. He splashed his face with the cool water, trying to refresh himself.
Yamada Ryosuke was now going to face reality by going back to work.
"Yama-chan, thank god you're back." Yabu had immediately stood up from his seat, walking towards him. Ryosuke was wearing extra clothes and his spectacle, an attempt to hide his weight lost and blood shot eyes. Ryutaro had immediately noticed the change, and had immediately rush towards the older boy, and pulling him into a hug.
"Ryu ..." The older boy smiled a little, and patted on Ryutaro's head. He knew that Ryutaro was worried. From the side of his eyes, he saw Keito approaching, and an arm had slung over his shoulder as he felt himself being pulled into a side hug.
Chinen had also came into the group hug. "Thanks guys. It would've been a 7's group hug. We're just ... missing someone." Ryosuke's voice traced off, and a tear rolled down his cheek. He couldn't take it, even if he thought he could.
The glaring absence of someone in JUMP. The rest of BEST had also joined the group hug, hoping that this would somehow heal the broken Ryosuke. It was no use. The absence of Ryosuke's Sun was unable to be covered by the other members of JUMP.
The absence of Nakajima Yuto was too unbearable for Yamada Ryosuke.
"Yuto, sorry for not visiting." The beeping sounds of the medical machines reverberated through the ward. On the bed, lies Yuto's still body, with an oxygen mask over his face and many tubes connected Yuto to those machines.
Each step Ryosuke took was heavy and the emotions that he had felt for the past few weeks had came pouring out all over again. Images of Yuto's lifeless body being toss through the air by the car flashed through his mind. His tears just wouldn't stop.
Caressing Yuto's cheeks, he felt that he had so many things to tell the younger boy, but no words came out. He pulled out strings of paper cranes from a paper bag, and started to hang them around Yuto's hospital ward.
"Ne, Yuto. I heard that folding 999 paper cranes would let a person wish be granted. Am I foolish for believing that?" The last string of paper cranes was hung beside Yuto's bed, and Ryosuke proceeded to arrange fresh flowers in the vase.
Roses. Flowers of love.
The strings of paper crane danced gracefully in the wind. "I wished that you'll wake up and be by my side, Yuto. Please, wake up."
The voice of the doctor echoed in his mind. 'The chances of him waking up is low.' Ryosuke shook his head, and he held Yuto's hand tenderly in his, as he sat down by the side. He would be Yuto's emotional support. Yuto would wake up. He will wake up.
A twitch was felt, and he saw the younger boy's hand moving. Time seems to have stopped, and when Ryosuke had comprehended the situation, he had immediately push the button for the nurse, and he stood there, eager to see Yuto's eyes open.
"Ryo ... suke. Sorry." Yuto called out, and as he opened his eyes, he had saw Ryosuke's teary face. The doctor and nurses had soon arrived, and had called Ryosuke to wait outside of the ward.
When both of them were finally able to see each other, Ryosuke had practically flung himself on top of Yuto. "Thanks for the paper cranes, Ryosuke." Warm drops of tears could be felt, and he had slowly caressed the older boy's head.
"I love you, Yuto. Don't leave me alone anymore."
Sometimes, miracles do happen. If we could just believe, like how Ryosuke had believed Yuto would wake up while folding each and every 999 paper cranes into the late night.
