The short beeping sound reverberated throughout the room. Yuto sat beside Ryosuke’s hospital bed, keeping his eyes fixed on Ryosuke’s still body. A tear fell, and soon, Yuto was sobbing continuously. It was all his fault. It was his fault that his fault that his best friend, the one he loves so much, was lying there with an oxygen mask on his face and many parts of his body wrapped in bandages.

Yuto was a thrill-seeking teenager, and his best friend Ryosuke, was someone that keeps Yuto in line. He was always with Yuto, making sure that Yuto does not get into trouble. Whenever Yuto had something in mind, Ryosuke would know it with just one look. Yuto’s thrill ranges from silly pranks to riding rollercoaster.

Both of them were in school that day, and suddenly, a grin crept up Yuto’s face. Ryosuke saw it and said, “Now, tell me what you are going to do this time. The last time you had that look on your face, we got chased by five dogs till the end of the street.” Ryosuke shivered at that memory and gave Yuto an annoyed look.

“Let’s try purchasing alcohol from a convenient store!” Yuto exclaimed, and Ryosuke just looked at Yuto in disbelieve. Of all the things he could do or buy, he just had to risk being caught buying alcohol, when he is still under age.

However, this time, Ryosuke thought that Yuto was just joking around. Although Yuto’s idea of thrill was ridiculous, the pranks he played were harmless, and the thrill-seeking stuffs were too. Yuto had never tried breaking the law before. So he just ignored Yuto, continuing to walk, with Yuto trailing behind him.

What he didn’t notice was that the grin never did fade away from Yuto’s face.

At night, Ryosuke went to the convient store to help his mother run some errands, than he spotted Yuto at the alcohol section. His eyes widened in disbelieve, not thinking that Yuto was actually serious in what he had said in the afternoon.

Ryosuke rushed into the convenient store and pulled Yuto out immediately.

“Have you gone crazy?! This is called ‘breaking the law’! You would be sent to jail if you go caught!” Ryosuke shouted angrily. Yuto just looked at Ryosuke in shock, but soon, his eyes darkened.

“Then all I have to do is not to get caught! And what are you doing here, Yama-chan? You shouldn’t be here. The shop assistant would never notice anything. I mean, look at my height. One hundred and eighty centimeter!” Yuto said coldly.

Ryo wanted to retort back, but Yu cut him off. “And what if I was caught? I wouldn’t affect you!” As soon as the words were said, Yuto immediately regretted as he saw Ryosuke stumped, looking at him with blank eyes.

“Not affect me? You, Nakajima Yuto dare to say that it would not affect me? YOU SHOULD KNOW BETTER THAT IT WOULD AFFECT ME GREATLY! It would affect me greatly because it would mean that the one I love would be sent to jail!” Ryosuke couldn’t continue this conversation anymore. He was infuriated by Yuto’s last statement, and he wanted to get away from him now. Especially since he just shouted that he loves Yuto.

Ryosuke stepped onto the road and cross, without looking for any cars. He only saw a flash of light and someone calling his name at the side, and he blacked out.

Yuto looked at Ryosuke’s pale face and thought, ‘All these are not worth it. Especially if it’s in exchange for my Ryosuke’s live.’

“Please, open your eyes Ryosuke. I love you, so open your eyes and tell me that you love me too.”
