On a bright May afternoon, sounds of soft piano notes floated into Ryosuke’s ears, and interrupted his train of thoughts of what work should be done that day. “It’s Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata.” Ryosuke whispered to himself softly, completely caught up in the soothing feeling the piece was giving him.
This piece reminded him about his past, and it was also the reason why he entered this music school to further his studies in music. He followed the sound, and stopped in front of the music room. As he slowly slide the door open, he saw a boy of his age who was so focused in playing the piano with his true feelings.
He let himself into the music room, and stood at the side and quietly listened to his performance. When the piece ended, Ryosuke clapped his hands and slowly approached the taller boy.
“I’m Yamada Ryosuke. Sorry to barge in, but I was so mesmerized by your performance, that I just found myself walking into the room.” Ryosuke extended his hand and smiled, hoping to be friends with the boy.
He smiled back and Ryosuke and shake his hand. “I’m Nakajima Yuto! I’m really glad you liked it! I believe we would be really good friends.”
It was music that brought this two totally different people together. Ryosuke was a shy and reserved boy, while Yuto was an out-going and sociable boy. Both of them have very different points of view in music, whether it was the genre or pace.
However, they took off quickly with their friendship. Every day after school, they would meet each other in the music room that they first met, and play the piano together. They would exchange tips that they had learnt in class with each other, and would suggest ways of improvement too.
As days passed their skills of playing the piano got better and better. One day, Yuto was informed that he would be having a solo during the school’s anniversary concert, and he would have to write an original piece.
When Yuto heard of it, he decided that he would write a piece of music for Ryosuke, a special piece for him and only him.
On the day of the concert, Ryosuke was seated in the midst of the audience, eagerly waiting for Yuto’s turn. Then, the announcer said, “Now, let’s welcome Yuto with his original piece ‘Special May’. This is composed by Yuto himself and it is dedicated to a special someone that he met through music on a May afternoon. Please enjoy Yuto’s ‘Special May’!”
Yuto came on to the stage and bowed gracefully to the crowd. He then spotted Ryosuke in the crowd and smiled to him, his expression suggested to Ryosuke, “This piece is for you, my special someone.”
Ryosuke returned the smile ten-folds, and indulged himself in Yuto’s music, dedicated to him.
“I love you too, Yuto.”
