here! :D
“Ne, Yuto! What are you drawing?” a 6 year-old Yamada Ryosuke asked, plopping down beside his best friend, Nakajima Yuto. On the drawing block, there were many strawberries and eggplants, and Yuto frowned as he tried to colour the picture perfectly.
Seeing that Yuto is not going to reply his question soon, Ryosuke just sat there beside Yuto, who was currently oblivious to his surroundings.
“It’s done!” Yuto suddenly shouted in delight, and when he turned to his left, he was shock to see Ryosuke staring at him intently.
“Ahh! Yama-chan! W-when did you appear here?!” Ryosuke just smiled and told him that he just sat down, not wanting the younger boy to feel guilty for not noticing him.
“So, Yuto. What were you drawing?” Ryosuke tried to ask, clearly interested in what Yuto was so focused in drawing.
A blush spread across Yuto’s cheeks and he stuttered, “E-eto. This is f-for you, Y-Yama-chan!” He passed the drawing to Ryosuke and quickly looked away, feeling his face heat up even more.
When Ryosuke got the picture, he looked at it confusedly and asked, “Yuto? What is this?” Yuto started to play with his fingers.
“I was thinking that Yama-chan was the most important person in my life and that I love Yama-chan the most and I want to create a perfect world for Yama-chan! Then I drew this because they are Yama-chan’s favourite. Yama-chan doesn’t like it?” Yuto looked at Ryosuke with teary eyes, and sniffed a bit.
Ryosuke looked at Yuto and broke into a brilliant smile, attacking Yuto with a hug. “Arigotou Yuto! I love Yuto the most too!” he shouted at the top of his lungs.
When Ryosuke reached home, he pasted the drawing on his wall, and smiled like a fool.
-11 years later-
Ryosuke was dead-tired as he jumped onto JUMP’s dressing room’s sofa, and just stayed there. “Ne, Keito, Let’s go for dinner later! Ryutaro, want to come along too?” He heard Yuto talking at the other side of the room.
He felt his heart clench, and a stray tear flowed down his cheeks and he hid his face by bringing his knees up, burying his face in them. He knew it quite sometimes ago. Maybe it was during their first duet, or was it during Seishun Amigo, or Hey! Say!?
He knew that his feelings for Yuto were not just of friends, but more. However, he didn’t know how to manage his feelings anymore. Whenever yuto talked to him, his heart and brain just went blank.
He couldn’t contain all these feelings, so he drifted away from Yuto, afraid of knowing Yuto’s feelings, afraid to know about Yuto’s reaction if he ever told him the truth.
Yuto was like the colour pencils of his life. He painted Ryosuke with many different feelings. Feeling of happiness, of sadness, of frustration, of selfishness, of loneliness, of heartache, of love, and many more. Yuto was the colour pencils of his life, making Ryosuke feel alive.
But now, Ryosuke pushed his set of perfect colour pencils away, and his world fell into misery, of black and white.
What Ryosuke didn’t notice was that Yuto was actually watching him. Yuto clenched his fist, as he saw Ryosuke crying. He had loved Ryosuke ever since … forever. Days spent with him were unexpected, filled with different elements of fun.
It would always be different, Ryosuke made his life worth living, like different vibrant colours dancing before his eyes. He didn’t dare to tell Ryosuke about his feelings, afraid of rejection, so when they started to drift apart, he hesitated to chase after him, and he still was.
Being the observant two in JUMP, Ryutaro and Keito nodded to each other and approached Ryosuke and Yuto respectively. Ryutaro plopped down onto the sofa, while Keito placed a hand on Yuto’s shoulder.
Both of them just whispered the same thing, “Stop drifting apart, and pick up those colour pencils of yours. It’s not too late. Try before giving up.”
After that, both of them left the dressing room, hand in hand, discussing about what to eat, leaving yuto and Ryosuke alone in the room.
After a moment of silence, Yuto spoke up. “Yama-chan, do you mind if I slept over at your place? I mean … my parent s and Raiya are not at home and …” He trailed off when he saw Ryosuke looking at him with wide eyes.
“Ahh! I mean! It’s just a question! I don’t mind even if you sa-” “You can come over. Let’s pass by your house first to let you grab a change of clothes. You’re too tall to wear mine now.” Ryosuke cut off Yuto’s sentence, and gave him a smile.
Both of them thought, ‘Tonight, I’m picking up those colour pencils again.’
The walk back to Ryosuke’s house was silent. Both of them had so many thoughts going through their mind.
When they reached Ryosuke’s house, his mother was surprised and pleased that Yuto had came. Yuto went up to Ryosuke’s room first, while Ryosuke talked to his mother about Yuto’s sudden stay over.
When Yuto stepped into Ryosuke’s room, he smiled, glad that there was no drastic change. Then he noticed the drawing that he gave Ryosuke years ago pasted on the wall.
Yuto smiled as he went to take a closer look. It was in perfect condition, not a crease or fold was on the paper. Then he turned his attention to a piece of post-it note on the wall, just beside the drawing block, Ryosuke’s neat words decorating it.
It wrote, ‘Yamada Ryosuke, stand back up and tell him your feelings! I should just admit that I love …’ the rest of the words were erased, but Yuto tried to squint, trying to make out what the prints were, trying to find out whom Ryosuke loves, while Ryosuke entered his room and saw Yuto reading what he wrote.
“Ahh! Yuto, y-you can go ahead and b-bathe first.” Ryosuke felt his face heat up, and he expected Yuto to ask him about who he loves, since Yuto read the post-it.
And true enough, “Ne, Yama-chan. Who is that person you love?” Yuto stood there facing the wall, not moving at all. He wanted Ryosuke to love him, but what are his chances?
Ryosuke’s mind went blank, and decided to just follow his heart. He walked towards Yuto, and hugged the younger and much taller boy from the back, his arms circling Yuto’s waist. Yuto stiffened in shock, and turned back a little to see that Ryosuke was really hugging him.
“The person I love is Yuto.” Ryosuke simply said, he decided that he wouldn’t regret. Then he felt Yuto prying his hands off, and Ryosuke let go immediately.
He didn’t dare to look at Yuto in the eyes anymore, and tried to make his escape, and dashed towards the door, but Yuto caught his hand, and pulled him back into an embrace. That had shocked Ryosuke. “Thank you, Ryosuke. I love you too.” And Yuto tilted the older boy’s head and kissed him.
“Thank you for colouring my life, Yuto.”
“That goes to you too, Ryo-chan.
